Our first service was January 1, 2005 under the direction of the Reverend Steven Dewey, under the authority of The Right Reverend Frank Lyons, of the Diocese of Bolivia. For several months we worshiped in borrowed space, at Louise Chapel in Metamora, given by the Roman Catholic Church in Lapeer.
After a few months, we rented office space on Saginaw Street, where we worked and worshiped for a few years. God directed us to a church building we rented, also on Saginaw Street, which is now the Restoration Center and the homeless shelter, the Refuge. Over the course of several years, we became part of the Anglican Church of North America.
On April 23, 2011, we made a bold move and bought an old bank building in Downtown Lapeer, across from the historic Courthouse.
After high school graduation, Colleen worked for the Church Army in Loveland, Colorado where she met her husband, who was studying for Holy Orders and was the Youth Pastor at All Saints Episcopal Church. After starting a family, they moved to the Detroit Metro area where he was ordained.
Colleen remained active in church life while raising three daughters. After Father Steve passed in 2006, Colleen was unexpectedly called to the ordained ministry in the Anglican tradition. She is currently a grandmother of 8 and the rector of St. Matthew's.
As part of the Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes, a duel integrity diocese, we are under the authority of our Bishop Ordinary, The Right Reverend Mark Engel and our Suffragan Bishop, The Right Reverend Allen Kannapell. They both wanted their pictures in our sacristy, the main safe of the bank building we own.
Our vision statement is “Sharing the Peace and Good News of Jesus with His World”
Supporting scriptures: Matthew 22:37-39 and Matthew 28:18-20
Our foundation is based on loving God, loving our neighbors, making, baptizing and teaching disciples.
Our Vestry is a dedicated group of individuals devoted to Christ and the function of the church, as directed by God and for its temporal needs.

Sunday attire is very casual – some in dresses, some in shorts and flip flops in the summer – and in winter it is not uncommon to see us in sweaters, sweatshirts, and winter boots.
